Today marks 25 years since the release of ‘Asleep in the Back’.

Originally released on 7th May 2001, elbow’s debut album introduced tracks including ‘Red’, ‘Newborn’, ‘Powder Blue’ and ‘Scattered Black and Whites’, and was later shortlisted for the Mercury Music Prize.

To mark the anniversary, a selection of archive videos, live footage and clips from the long out-of-print ‘Asleep in the Back’ film are now being made available on the band’s official YouTube channel for the first time.

'Music Box With Guy Garvey' Episode Three

Episode Three of ‘Music Box With Guy Garvey’ is available on BBC iPlayer now.

Malian four-piece Songhoy Blues are the featured artists in this week’s episode. Guy explores their history, musical influences, the sound of the blues in northern Mali and their baptism through the Africa Express project spearheaded by Damon Albarn. There is also an exclusive clip from upcoming film ‘They Will Have To Kill Us First’, documenting the struggle of Mali’s musicians and Songhoy Blues’ work with Yeah Yeah Yeah’s Nick Zinner. The programme also features Songhoy Blues live in session recorded earlier this year and performances from the archive by Canned Heat and Ali Farke Touré.
